The third issue of ‘Ōiwi focuses on issues involved in Hawaiian education, reflected in the theme Huliau (Time of Change). Poems, short stories, essays, artwork, and articles from the 19th and early 20th century Hawaiian language newspapers Ka Hoku o ka Pakipika and Ka Puuhonua o na Hawaii. This issue includes Native Hawaiian testimonies against the continued development of Mauna Kea, our sacred mountain.

A compilation of “Notable Hawaiian Profiles” focus on five Native Hawaiian individuals who have made a difference the Hawaiian community: Dr. Patrick Aiu, Mary Kawena Pukui, Gabriel Kapeliela ‘Ī, David Michael Kaipolaua‘eokekuahiwi Inciong, and Punahou School’s current President, Jim Scott.
