The University of Hawai'i at Manoa's (UHM) College
Opportunities Program (COP) is a statewide program offering
summer and first-year residential college experience for the
under-represented minority, disadvantaged or non-traditional
students.
COP's mission is to recruit, screen, select, and prepare pre-freshmen for college success and UHM via summer instruction. Participants are provided academic, financial, and personal counseling, as well as workshops and other support services. The program recruits Hawaii residents who are American citizens, U.S. nationals, or persons holding permanent visas who may not meet the requirements for regular UHM admission, are academically underprepared, economically disadvantaged, ethnically underrepresented on campus, non-traditional, or in need of a stuctured college entry. Applicants must have the potential, commitment and desire to pursue a four-year degree at UHM.
For over 35 years, the College Opportunities Program has operated under the belief that given a chance, individuals who are motivated and provided with new learning opportunities and support services can succeed in their first year here at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and eventually earn a baccalaureate degree. This year, 55 students from across the state of Hawaii were selected for the 37th class - COP 2006.
