The use of a reserved space for accessible parking requires compliance with University of Hawaiʻi Parking Rules. The Policy regarding accessible parking addresses Federal and State as pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Locations
Reserved spaces for accessible parking are located throughout the Mānoa Campus, and are available to qualified persons only. Parking signs displaying the international symbol of access identifies the reserved spaces for accessible parking.
Placard and Special Plates
The University of Hawaiʻi recognizes placards and special license plates displaying the international symbol of access. The display of a valid placard or special license plate displaying the international symbol of access is required when parking in any space reserved for accessible parking.
Parking Access
The use of all parking spaces on the Mānoa campus requires the display of the appropriate valid University Parking Permit, Pass, Daily Parking Ticket or the display of a Federal, State, or City Government License plate. This requirement applies to the use of reserved spaces for accessible parking.
Permits and Passes
A valid Upper Campus, Zone 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 09, 12, 13, and 17 Permit, when displayed in conjunction with a valid placard or valid special plate will allow the user to park in any space reserved for accessible parking; and any regular permit parking space located in an Upper or Lower Campus Zone.
A valid Lower Campus, Zone 07, 08, 8X, 18, 19, 20, 20X, 21, and 21X Permit, when displayed in conjunction with a valid placard or valid special plate will allow the user to park in any space reserved for accessible parking; and any regular permit parking space located in a Lower Campus Zone.
A valid Zone M Permit when displayed in conjunction with a valid placard or valid special plate will allow the user to park in any space reserved for accessible parking; and any regular permit parking space located on the Mānoa campus.
Visitor Parking and Special Passes
A valid Daily Visitor Parking Ticket or valid Special Parking Pass, when displayed in conjunction with a valid placard or valid special plate will allow the user to park in any space reserved for accessible parking; and any regular permit parking space located on the Mānoa campus. Upper campus parking requires purchase of a visitor ticket from the automated pay stations; there is no free parking on campus.
Special Events
The University reserves the right to restrict the use or close any on-campus parking areas as deemed necessary to accommodate parking requirements for special events. Alternate parking areas will be provided to accommodate vehicles displaced by the special event.
Motorcycle and Moped Parking
Motorcycles and mopeds displaying a valid placard or valid special plate in conjunction with a valid Daily Visitor Parking Ticket, valid Special Parking Pass, or valid Motorcycle/Moped parking permit shall be allowed to utilize any reserved space for accessible parking.
Compliance Enforcement
Parking officers are authorized to issue a citation with a fine to any vehicle operator or vehicle parking in a reserved space for accessible parking, without a valid placard or special license plate for accessible parking displayed. Parking Officers are authorized to request proper identification of any person utilizing a reserved space for accessible parking, to determine the valid use of a placard or special plate for accessible parking.
