Examples of Pacific Business Center
Program Projects:
Aquaculture Business Plan. The Center is preparing
a business plan for starting an aquaculture farm in Chuuk to
grow and sell sponges, coral, giant clams and black pearls. The
client will use the plan to obtain financing for the business.
Bank Financial System Assessment. PBCP consultants
conducted a financial analysis of a Pacific Island development
bank and assisted in implementing their recommendations on financial
reporting and controls. They also helped develop a budget framework
and trained bank personnel in implementing its budget.
Charter Fishing Boat Business Plan. The Center
prepared a business plan which the client successfully used to
obtain a loan and start up a charter fishing boat business on
the Waianae Coast of Oahu, Hawaii.
Cultural Center Feasibility Study. The Center
conducted an initial feasibility study and is now working with
a consultant to prepare a more comprehensive and detailed study
to set up a cultural center in Palau as a visitor attraction.
Entrepreneurship Workshops. The Center conducted
a series of workshops in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands and in Palau, on standard management tools and practices
for starting and operating a small business.
Problem Loan Assistance. The Center assisted
clients who received loans from a government economic development
agency to help them improve their businesses, and to resume payments
on their loans.
Rongelap Resettlement Plan. As part of a multi-disciplinary
approach, the Center is coordinating technical assistance from
several UH colleges to design facilities and an economic infrastructure
for Rongelap Atoll natives who were evacuated over 10 years ago
from their island, because of radioactive fallout from nuclear
testing in nearby Bikini Atoll in the 1950’s.
Tourism Development Plan. At the request of
the Kili/Bikini/Ejit Local Government, PBCP is working with the
UH School of Travel Industry Management to prepare a tourism
plan for the orderly development of sustainable tourism on Bikini
Atoll.
Waianae Coast Business Development. The Center
identified potentially profitable products and services targeting
customers in and outside Hawaii, then prepared business plans
for ventures having the best potential for success on the Waianae
Coast, an economically depressed area of Oahu.
