Research interests: Generally speaking, my philosophical interests have to do with trying to understand “how things in the broadest possible sense of the term hang together in the broadest possible sense of the term.” Put more particularly, I hope to enjoy a “pure experience” in which ontological, epistemological, ethical, and aesthetic concerns converge in such a way as to have meliorative consequences for my life. The textual traditions that I find most enticing in pursuing such tasks are Pre-Qin and Song-Ming Confucianism, the Platonic and Aristotelian corpus, American Pragmatism, the German speculative thinkers (Hegel, Heidegger, Gadamer), and Danish existentialism. I’m currently working on a project that puts the Confucian tradition in dialogue with pragmatism by way of thinking about somatic intelligence. |
