C. Johnson Abstract

Abstract for Carl M. Johnson, "Daoism and Computation":

This talk attempts to make the processual understanding of the dao more clear by comparing and contrasting it with computation. Computation is the process by which one rule governed system is used to make reliable inferences about another rule governed system. A proper understanding of the dao also allows one to make reliable inferences about the world, but unlike in computation, these inferences are appropriate to the entire context of understanding rather than the consequence of simple rule following.
