Demonstrating policemen

Besides students, many common people and professionals, and some government officials, joined the prodemocracy demonstrations in Tiananmen Square, June 1989. Here is shown a policemen proclaiming on a hand written sign: "Victory to the students." What subsequently happened to this man during and after the massacre is unknown. I have no doubt, however, that if he survived the massacre and was captured by government forces, he was soon murdered. He had to know this would happen. He is one of the unknown heroes of democracy, as were so many of the thousands of demonstrators massacred during those bloody days. For documentation on communist China's democide and repression, see China's Bloody Century; and Chapter 1 of Saving Lives, Enriching Life Source: "Tiananmen, April-June 1989".
