The following are places on campus where you can receive academic advising. Click on the center names, in green, to visit their websites.

Pre-Health/Pre-Law Advising Center (PAC)

PAC is UHM's hub for all pre-med/pre-health information and the best place to get unbiased information about your options. PAC is a walk in resource center for students interested in any of the medicines (allopathic, chiropractic, naturopathic, osteopathic, podiatric) or health sciences (dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, veterinary medicine, etc.), as well as law.

You don't need an appointment! Come in whenever you have time: PAC is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday,(QLCSS 101) and is staffed by fellow pre-med/pre-health students trained to answer most questions and give referrals.

Pre-med/pre-health students should come into PAC for advising at least once a year to stay on track.

Biology Program

The Biology Program (BIOL) is a cooperative program whose faculty members are
from the Biology Program and the Departments of Botany; Cell and Molecular Biology; Microbiology, Molecular BioSciences and BioEngineering; and Zoology. It provides an academic home to students who wish to receive broad training in the biological sciences.

Student advising is mandatory. Prospective students should come to Dean 2 for advising immediately, in order to design a curriculum that satisfies program requirements. Advising is available on a walk-in or appointment basis. To book your advising session call (808) 956-8303 or email bioadvis@hawaii.edu.

First Year Programs

Access to College Excellence (ACE) learning communities offer a combination of three general education courses and a small group, 1-credit integrating seminar (CAS 110: Access to the College Community). Courses are grouped to provide freshmen with an introduction to various academic perspectives while fulfilling graduation requirements. CAS 110 is led by an upperclassman peer mentor who supports freshmen cohorts in their new learning environment. Successful college students themselves, peer mentors assist with the development of successful academic strategies, creation of social and interpersonal networks, and involvement in a variety of campus events. ACE espouses a well-rounded, multifaceted approach to college education. Freshmen who are eager to learn, enthusiastic about making friends while increasing independence, and excited about getting involved will benefit from what ACE has to offer.

Freshman Seminars offer incoming students an opportunity to take courses in a small class setting. Classes are limited to ten students and are led by advanced student leaders under the direction of a faculty member within the department of the course being offered. Although a few of the FS courses are electives, most of them fulfill general education core requirements at the University. Freshman Seminars are an excellent way to supplement a learning community schedule, or can be taken outside of a learning community.

Manoa Peer Advising (MPA)

MPA Strives to provide the University of Hawai`i at Manoa student body with available and resourceful Peer Advisors who will guide the students through all stages in their college careers.
