The executive board understands this responsibility and takes it to heart when planning their events. PMA's events are roughly divided into three categories:
- Community Service. Chaired by Director Marissa Agena, community service focuses on helping PMA members make a difference in their local community and in the world. PMA service events focus on volunteering in healthcare related settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, and homeless shelters.
- Medical Education. Chaired by Director Arantxa Medina, medical education focuses on keeping PMA members updated with current events of the healthcare community and providing tips on how to do various parts of the medical school application process.
Physician Directory
PMA wants to help you all (the members) get real hands-on experience in the health care field by providing you with the contact information of physicians and other medical professionals who have agreed to be role models for PMA's members. You may be able to volunteer in their offices or even get opportunities to shadow them!
Each physician may have different responsibilities and requirements for you, so please double check that you would be able to meet these terms before agreeing to work with them. You also must sign a contract before entering any working relationship with any of the physicians.
Remember that while working with these physicians, you will be representing PMA and we are counting on you to set a good example for the other members. If there are any instances of misconduct, we will be alerted.
Upon exiting your term working with the physician, you will be asked to fill out an evaluation of your experiences with PMA's Physician Directory Program so that we may get your feedback and make improvements on the program.
- Student Relations. Chaired by Director Ruby Sato, student relations assesses the needs of the PMA membership and helps the executive board make decisions based on what members would like to see from the organization. Student Relations also focuses on creating numerous social opportunities for members to be able to relax, hang out, and get to know their fellow members better. Recently, student relations has begun hosting events with other pre-health and science organizations.
PMA Mixer: The mixer gives members the opportunity to get to know their fellow colleagues in the club. Games will be played to help "break the ice" and food will be provided. By the end of the night, hopefully everybody will have made a new friend!
Joint BBQ Social: PMA, along with other health clubs on campus combine their efforts and have a big BBQ at Magic Island. The Joint BBQ Social is a great way for members from different clubs to meet and get to know each other. There will be games and lots of delicious food for members to enjoy.
