Dr. Grandinetti's area of interest is on disparities in the prevalence of diabetes, diabetes complications, and cardiovascular risk factors in Hawai‘i's multi-ethnic population. His current research is focused on the neurological complications of diabetes and the effects of insulin resistance on neurological function, in collaboration with Dr. Phillip Low of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This ongoing clinical study is recruiting residents of the rural community of Kohala, on the Island of Hawai‘i. Dr. Grandinetti also collaborates with the Pacific Health Research Institute's Parkinson Disease research group, which has been investigating the risk factors for this debilitating neurodegenerative disease among survivors of the Honolulu Heart Program cohort.
