Dr. Alan Katz's research interests include leptospirosis
and sexually transmitted diseases. This includes both epidemiologic
and behavioral factors related to disease risk and prevention.
He currently serves as a member of the Scientific Advisory
Committee of the University of Hawai‘i AIDS Clinical
Trials Group and is a staff physician and medical consultant
at the Hawai‘i State Department of Health's Diamond
Head STD Clinic.
Selected Research Projects
Efficacy of Cefpodoxime in the Treatment of Gonococcal Infection: In collaboration
with colleagues from the California Department of Health Services and the
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Katz is the Hawai‘i
state study coordinator for this multicenter efficacy study.
Epidemiology of STDs in Hawai‘i: In collaboration with colleagues
at the Department of Health, Dr. Katz is analyzing and interpreting clinical
and epidemiologic data on selected bacterial sexually transmitted diseases
in Hawai‘i.
