Dr. Keller's research interests include the mechanism of individual health behavior change and their relationship to social and ecological variables. Influencing all of these variables is seen as essential for achieving physical, psychological/mental and social well-being. Previous research has been conducted in the general population, in work places, communities and medical settings. Behavior areas included smoking cessation and smoking policy attitudes, dietary change, exercise, back pain prevention, stress management, oral hygiene behavior, organ donation and others. Future research will be aiming at identifying and addressing the needs of Hawaiian communities, at cross-cultural comparisons of behavior change mechanisms, and at improving current models of behavior change. Behavior areas of interest currently focus on stress management, smoking, back pain prevention and exercise.
