Graduation
The UHM
Commencement Ceremony is held twice annually - in May
and December. Students who plan to graduate must file a Graduate
Application for Degree in the beginning of their graduating
semester. The degree application is also available at the
Graduate Records Office, Spalding 352. Completed applications
must be submitted to the Graduate Records Office. Appropriate
payment must then be made via MyUH or in person at the UHM
Cashier's Office, QLC 105. There is a $30 graduation and diploma
fee ($60 if the optional Hawaiian language diploma is requested)
and, if applicable, a $21 binding fee for the thesis or dissertation
(MS-A and doctoral students only). Graduation regalia and
other related merchandise may be purchased at the UH
Bookstore.
In addition to filing the application for degree by the
appropriate deadline, students must also observe deadlines
for the final examination and for the submission of thesis
or dissertation. For further details, view the Graduation
Deadline Dates, which also includes information for students
graduating in the summer. NOTE: All graduate students
need to be registered during the final semester of their program
of study (see Registration
webpage for exceptions).
Upon written request, students who complete all of their
degree requirements may, at any time during the semester,
receive certification from the Graduate Division that the
degree will be conferred at the end of the appropriate term,
provided their records are clear of all discrepancies.
Diplomas are generally ready for pick-up at the UHM Admissions
and Records Office (A&R) two months after graduation.
If you are leaving the state of Hawai‘i and will not
be able to pick-up your diploma, you may request that it be
mailed to you. Request to Mail Diploma Forms are available
at A&R, QLCSS Room 001. Inquiries regarding diplomas should
be sent to records@mail.admrec.hawaii.edu,
not the Graduation Division or offices in the Department of
Public Health Sciences.
Students who have completed all requirements for their degree
and who wish to postpone graduation to a later date may do
so with sound academic reasons which must be verified by the
graduate chair. Generally, such students are not eligible
for achievement scholarships or graduate assistantships. Students
in MS-A or doctoral programs may not enroll in Thesis 700
or Dissertation 800 respectively during the additional semester(s)
or summer session(s).
