New federal rules on drone use

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that new Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS; commonly referred to as drones) rules, including all pilot and operating rules, went into effect as of August 29, 2016.

Anyone who operates a drone on University of Hawaiʻi property, and all University of Hawaiʻi employees, students and other individuals who operate drones in any location as part of their university employment or as part of any university-related activity, must comply with FAA regulations and any applicable county, state and federal laws.
