Finding Books in Voyager and the Library

Hawaii Voyager | Search Guide (pdf)

Hawaii Voyager is the catalog for all of the University of Hawaii libraries. Search Hawaii Voyager for books, journals, videos, and more. Do not use it to find specific journal articles on a topic. Go to Finding Journal Articles for links to those tools.

Finding Journal Articles

American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Technical Library: 1999 - present

Searchable database of full text of all ASAE technical documents including journals, conference proceedings, standards, technical meetings, and books.

Compendex via Engineering Village: 1970 - present

A comprehensive index of engineering literature; citations with abstracts to international engineering journals, conference proceedings, technical reports, and trade publications.

Google Scholar via UHM

Allows you to search in Google and retrieve only scholarly literature. Using this Library link will allow you to access the full-text via the Fulltext @ My Library link.

SciFinder Scholar: 1907-present

Database is the premier index of chemical research and patents. SciFinder Scholar requires special client software to be installed on each authorized user's computer. Contact the Science & Technology Reference Department (sciref@hawaii.edu) to obtain a copy of the software. Access available on authenticated computers in Hamilton Library 1st floor addition. NOTE: SciFinder Scholar does not allow wireless access.

Learning to Use SciFinder Scholar at UHM

Scitopia

A free search tool for documents, patents and government data from 15 science and technology societies plus the patent offices of the U.S. Japan, and Europe. NOTE: The UH Manoa Library subscribes to many of the journals included in Scitopia. You will not be able to link directly to full text from Scitopia if you are outside the Library. UH Manoa students, faculty and staff should use the Library's electronic resources gateway at http://micro189.lib3.hawaii.edu/ezproxy/ to access the Library's full-text subscriptions.

Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded): 1980 - present | Web of Science Search Guide (pdf) | Cited Reference Search Guide (pdf)

Multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the sciences. Allows searching to find papers that have cited a particular paper as well as searching by topic or author.

Patent Information

LexisNexis Academic

This database has a section for searching patents. At the opening Lexis-Nexis Academic screen, click on the “Legal” tab at the top. In the left hand navigation bar on the next screen, you will see a link for “Patents.” Clicking that link takes you to a page where you can search U.S. patents, European patents, patent abstracts of Japan, Patent Cooperation Treaty (World Intellectual Property Organization) patents, and U.K. patents.
