Finding Meteorology Journals

Hawaii Voyager

The online catalog of the University of Hawaii libraries. To find a journal title, go to Basic Search and perform a title search.

Electronic Journals at UH Manoa

Use this database to find electronic journals and databases that are available through the library. Once the link to a journal or database is retrieved, you will login to connect to the UHM Library proxy server. Many of the licensed resources are only accessible outside of the library to UHM faculty, students, and staff.


Useful Indexes & Bibliographies

EbscoHost Academic Search Premier

General index that has full-text meteorology journals. Meteorology, meteorological instruments are subjects in Academic Search Premier. By limiting to Peer Reviewed Articles you will only retrieve citations to refereed articles.

Geobase via Ovid 1980 - present:

Citations for journal articles, books, monographs, conference proceedings, and reports, many with abstracts, in geography, geology, ecology, and engineering.

Meteorological & Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA)

An index that covers 769 journals for meteorological research. All of the journals listed below are covered by MGA and all of the American Meteorological Society publications are indexed cover to cover.

Web of Science

A multidisciplinary index in which the most highly cited meteorological journals are indexed. Online coverage is available from 1980 to the present.

Go to General Search to enter a topic search. Tip: You can sort your results by Times Cited to find the articles that may form the foundation for the research you are investigating.

Click the Find It button to link to the electronic journal article or if UH Manoa does not have access to the electronic version you will find a link to Hawaii Voyager.

Climate Change and Its Potential Impacts on Tropical Cyclone Intensity and Frequency (free)

A recent (2007) bibliography of scholarly literature on climate change created by Chris Kinner of NOAA. Links to full-text articles are provided when the article is available online.


Data Sources

UH Manoa Weather Server

Weather data hosted by UH Manoa's Meteorology Department. Data categories include Hawaiian weather, Tropical Weather, satellite imagery, models, and archived data.

National Climate Data Center

Provides downloadable data from weather stations located all over the world. Data are provided in hours and include temperature, precipitation, wind speed and wind direction. The data sets are free to users requesting from educational institutions.

World Climate Data and Monitoring Programme (WCDMP)

From the World Meteorological Organization this site has a lot of information including links to climate databases.

Check Hawaii Voyager, the online catalog for older issues of journals in print.

Most of these journals require a subscription to access the full-text articles--using these links you will be able to authenticate to the UH Manoa Library proxy server so that you will have full access.
