PCs with MS Office Software Available in Library

 

 

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Library provides eight computers with Microsoft Office 2000 softwareótermed Scholar Workstationsófor University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) students, faculty and staff. The Scholar Workstations, equipped with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and a public Internet browser, allow library users to do all or most of their educational and research work conveniently within Hamilton Library.

 

The Workstations are located on the first floor of Hamilton Annex in the Science & Technology Reference Departmentís room A-152 (Computer Room). The Computer Room is open during the regular hours of Hamilton Library.

 

Printing is available via a GoPrint station, costs seven cents a page, and requires a ìUHM Libraries Copy/Print Card.î See the Libraryís Business Office to obtain a Card.

 

Usage

 

The Workstations are available only for current UHM students, faculty, and staff. Users must enter a valid, activated library barcode. (See ID Registration for information about activating the card online or in-person.) The library barcode is found at the bottom of student, faculty or staff ID cards (not a social security number). Users are expected to comply with University and Library computer use policies.

 

There is a time limit of two hours for use of the Scholar Workstations.

 

Software Available

 

In addition to Microsoft Office 2000, users have access to Windows Media Player, Notepad, Acrobat Reader, and Internet Explorer. Four of the Workstations have multilingual word processing capabilities. In addition to the default of English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are available from the language menu on some of the workstations.

 

Users are expected to know how to use the applications and refer to the applicationsí Help sections for assistance with software-related questions. Problems with hardware, printing, or Internet access should be reported to the Science & Technology Reference Department (sciref@hawaii.edu).

 

Downloading

 

Downloading may be done to floppy or zip (100 Mb) disks. Users are expected to bring their own disks. Files may be saved temporarily to the Desktop or My Documents, however, users should be aware that such files will be purged periodically.
