Crime Alert - Attempted Kidnapping

June 16, 2005

This morning (Thursday, June 16) at approximately 9 am, an incident involving a UH summer session student was reported to the Honolulu Police Department. It occurred on Kamehameha Avenue near the Manoa campus.

The student had parked in the neighborhood and was on the way to campus when someone in another vehicle asked a question from a distance. When the student approached the vehicle, an attempt was made to force the student into the car. The student was NOT abducted, and the person in the vehicle drove away.

Useful information about the perpetrator and his vehicle has been supplied to the police and their investigation is proceeding. We believe that the incident is being classified as an attempted kidnapping, and it is possible or likely that HPD will eventually issue a Crimestoppers alert requesting public assistance in apprehending the suspect.

Until that time, UH Manoa Campus Security has asked that the incident be brought to the attention of the Manoa community as soon as possible.

If you have any information please contact Campus Security at 956-6911, Dean of Students at 956-3290 or Student Housing at 956-8177.
