Campus Security Alert

October 5, 2006

Campus Security recently received a report of a sex assault that occurred in a Manoa UH residence hall. The facts and circumstances in this case have prompted us to issue a campus wide alert in accordance with the federal Clery Act.

In this case, a female UHM student became involved in an online correspondence with an unknown male. After a period of time, the female agreed to meet the male. After meeting the male off-campus, the female invited the male to her on-campus dorm room, where he forcibly raped her.

This case is being actively pursued by the Honolulu Police Department. At this time, the suspect has not been arrested.

As a reminder, please be cautious when online. There are many dishonest individuals who use the Internet for the wrong reasons. Please use extreme caution if you decide to have a face-to-face meeting.

If you have been raped or sexually assaulted, you can contact the Sex Abuse Treatment Center’s 24-hour hotline at 524-7273. On campus, you can tell the Counseling Center (956-7927), residence hall Staff, the Women’s Center (956-8059) or Campus Security. You are not alone--we are here to help you.
