For two days the week of 27 November through December 1, 2006, UH Manoa Campus Security and undercover officers from the Honolulu Police Department conducted Operation "UH Offensive," aimed at deterring property crimes on the Manoa campus.
Campus Security and HPD have been working more closely this semester to assure safety and security of students, faculty and staff on campus and in the surrounding neighborhoods that comprise HPD District 7. Of particular note was a three-fold increase in campus thefts and burglaries, especially with bicycles and mopeds, and especially in the student residence area.
As many as fifty HPD undercover officers and additional campus security patrol officers were stationed at a half-dozen points around the campus from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
As many as 13 individuals were stopped and identified as possible suspects on UH Manoa and immediate surrounding areas.
Officials feel that the Operation was very successful because of the close cooperation and working relationships developed between HPD and UH Campus Security. There will be more such operations in the future.
