Suspected Arson
Monday, July 24, 2000

On July 23, 2000, at about 3:15 A.M., Campus Security received a report of a suspected fire at the Campus Center. Responding officers with the assistance of the Campus Center night manager located a fire emanating from the TacoBell/Pizza Hut complex. The HFD were in route from the first sign of smoke, and had the fire under control in 20 minutes.

Investigation at the scene revealed suspicious circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire causing investigators to assume Arson. The current theory is person/s unknown started the fire to cover the evidence of a burglary. Evidence leads investigators to believe entry to Campus Center was gained through the double doors at the rear loading dock adjacent to Andrews Amphitheater.

Campus Security is requesting help from the UH community with this case. Anyone having seen anything or suspicious person around Campus Center in the early morning hours, or have any information regarding this case please contact Captain Donald Dawson at 956-9868.
