- Since the beginning of the Fall 2000 Semester, the rate of theft of bicycles and mopeds has risen dramatically. From what we are seeing most of the victims are failing to adequately secure their property. We strongly recommend using a quality-locking device, additionally, use two different types of locking devices, e.g., cable and U-lock. Try as much as possible to lock the bicycle or moped to a bike or moped rack provided by the University and in a lighted area.
- Along with bicycles and mopeds, we are experiencing thefts of computers. The thieves are getting bold, for example we have had two laptop computers stolen in two weeks, where by the thief entered an office during the normal workday, grabbed the computer and ran off. In one of the cases the victim actually saw the suspect and gave chase but was unable to stop the suspect. Both cases involved victims who just stepped out of their office for a short period of time. We recommend that you lock up or secure easily removable items such as laptop computers, cell phones, back packs etc., even if you are going to be away from them for a short period of time.
