Undergraduate Financial Aid

How to read the list. All students are eligible for the general awards. All students in an Asian area are eligible for the Asia awards as well as those that may be listed under their country of specialization. For example:

General

Pacific-Asian Scholarships -- Undergraduates

A limited number of scholarships are available to all undergraduates at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa with high academic standing who are pursuing a well-designed course of study or major related to the Pacific-Asian region, or who are from a Pacific-Asian jurisdiction. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPR and must be full-time students. The competition is open to both residents and nonresidents. The award includes full tuition waiver, but does not include fees. Awards will be for one academic year (two semesters), contingent on maintaining full-time status and a 3.5 cumulative GPR. Deadline for applications is May 13.

Foreign Student Tuition Reductions

The APTDE is no longer being offered. Instead, international freshmen and transfer students should apply for the International Student Scholarship. Information about this will follow shortly.

Rotary Foundation

These are available for undergraduate and graduate students. Graduate students must be between the ages of 18-30 inclusive. Candidates whose native language is other than that needed for the proposed course of study must submit evidence of competence and may be required to take a test. These scholarships are for the support of one year of academic training abroad. Children of Rotary Club members are not eligible. Asia

National Security Education Program

NSEP fellowships require recipients to fulfill a service requirement.
For undergraduate students NSEP provides up to $16,000 for one academic year to study a foreign language and culture, which is currently underrepresented. Applicants should be U.S. citizens, undergraduate students, and in an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution. James Shigeta Scholarship in Asian Studies

This scholarship covers tuition costs for one academic year for undergraduates in Asian studies at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Some consideration for financial need is given in the selection process. Application deadline is March 1. Announcement for Spring-Summer 2007

Japan Travel Bureau Scholarship

This annual $1,000 scholarship was established to promote understanding between peoples and nations of the world through higher education. A candidate must be a full-time classified UHM upperclass undergraduate interested in international relations or cross-cultural studies and have demonstrated high scholastic achievement.
