Study Abroad
For students at the University of Hawai'i, there are three basic types of study abroad opportunities:
- Exchange agreements, coordinated by individual university faculty or staff and administered by UH Manoa Office of International Exchange
- Independent study, where official relationships do not exist, but through which students may still receive course credit
- The Study Abroad Center
These options represent a range of opportunities and prices and amount of effort required of the student.
UHM has formal exchange agreements with 6 universities that are of particular interest to Asian Studies students: National University of Singapore, Chulalongkorn (Thailand), Mahidol (Thailand), Thammasat (Thailand), Yonsei (Korea) and Leiden University (The Netherland).
However,
the International Exchange website offers a list of many more
universities in Asia that are UHM partners
in Hong Kong,
Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
The International Exchange office can provide details on many opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students wishing to study in almost any country in Asia.
The Study Abroad Center has programs in China and Japan as well as their "Self-Designed Study" option.
