Keynote Speaker: Kenneth Quinones

Professor Kenneth Quinones holds the Andrews Visiting Scholar chair for Spring 2007 at UHM Center for Korean Studies. Prof. Quinones is currently Director of Global Studies and Professor of Korean Studies at Akita International University in Japan. He was the State Department's North Korean Affairs officer, 1992-1994; on the negotiating team during the 1993-1994 nuclear negotations; accompanied the first U.S. delegation to visit North Korea's Yongbyon Nuclear Research Center in Nov. 1994. He lived and worked at Yongbyon for 8 months between 1995 and 1997. He also served as political adviser to the US DoD team which recovered 8,100 Korean War US MIAs.

 

The 2007 SHAPS Graduate Student Conference is an event open to students from ALL disciplines. Our aim is to provide a forum for graduate students from a broad range of specialties to discuss their latest innovative research relating to Asian and/or Pacific Islands Studies. UH-Mānoa students and students from other colleges and universities -- local, mainland, and international -- are all encouraged to participate.
