Logistics
Ground Transportation The program fee
includes round-trip ground transportation between the University of
Hawai'i at Manoa and Honolulu International Airport, and all scheduled
fieldtrips. Should any student or
faculty leader need special assistance (such as a wheelchair lift)
please notify our program staff as soon as possible so that
arrangements can be made prior to arrival. Our bus drivers will not
entertain requests to be dropped off at any location other than the
University of Hawai'i or fieldtrip destination.
University Health Services University Health Services will be
available to your students with their University of Hawai'i ID cards.
University Health Services on campus is staffed by physicians, nurses
and support staff providing a wide range of medical services. The
center has a pharmacy, clinical laboratory, x-ray, as well as
specialty clinics in women's health, sports medicine, dermatology and
orthopedic medicine. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday from
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Any medical emergency arising during off hours
should be handled at one of the many hospitals located in
Honolulu.
Campus Parking Should your faculty leader need a parking space
on campus for a rented vehicle, our program staff will arrange for a
campus parking pass. The cost of the parking pass varies depending on
the number of days that parking is needed. Please be advised that our
program coordinators cannot arrange parking passes for student
participants, friends or spouses. We do recommend that students not
rent cars or mopeds.
Assumption of Risk, Liability and Medical Consent Forms All Assumption of Risk and Liability and Medical Consent forms must be completed by each participant and received by our program office prior to arrival. Should you anticipate any difficulty in submitting these documents prior to arrival, please contact our program office. Printable versions of both forms are available on-line for your convenience.
Housing & Meals
University of Hawai'i Housing Students and faculty leaders are housed in the University of Hawai'i Conference Center, a dormitory reserved for guests of the University. Housing for students is double occupancy (same sex). Roommate assignments should be received by our program office prior to your arrival. The housing costs for students are included in the cost of the program. Housing costs for faculty leaders are not included in the student program fee. The cost of housing in the University of Hawai'i Conference Center is $30/night for a single room. Our program staff, while happy to advise, will not be responsible for housing or meal arrangements for friends or family of faculty leaders or students.
Should a faculty leader desire housing separate from his students, such arrangements should be made on his own, as the procedures differ from arrangements at the University of Hawai'i. Separate arrangements include housing in the East-West Center (Lincoln Hall, Hale Manoa, Hale Kuahine) and hotels or bed/breakfasts located outside of the University of Hawai'i. The East-West Center is located adjacent to the University of Hawai'i and within walking distance to the cafeteria. Faculty leaders wishing to be housed in the East-West Center's facilities should contact the reservations office directly, (808) 944-7805.
Housing Amenities The rooms in the University of Hawai'i Conference Center are equipped with twin beds and desks. All rooms accommodate two people but may be used as a single room at the same cost (for faculty leaders). Bathroom facilities are shared on each floor and segregated by sex. Bed linen, towels, hotel-size soap and a few hangers are also provided. Students may want to bring additional soap. Bed linens and towels can be exchanged at the front desk on a weekly basis, and blankets are available upon request. Coin operated washers and dryers are available on the top floor, and a color television is provided in the main lounge. Each room has a telephone from which local calls may be made without charge. Access to long-distance dialing may be arranged by applying for a private authorization code upon arrival, however it is preferred that Short-term in Hawai'i participants bring their own calling cards. A deposit is required for long-distance service.
Meal Plans All participants will receive a pre-paid meal card
for the cafeteria, Hale Aloha, which is adjacent to the Conference
Center. All meal plans will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Monday - Friday, and brunch and dinner on Saturday, Sunday and state
and federal holidays. The cafeteria's hours will be posted in the
Conference Center and made available in your program folders.
