| Polynesian Cultural Center Promotion Team
They have entertained in Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Bermuda and throughout the U.S. They have performed in front of packed stadiums and before millions on television. And that's just the beginning. "They" are the members of the Polynesian Cultural Center's International Promotional Team. Their specialty is the music, dance, and culture of Polynesia, but their ability to spread the goodwill of aloha knows no boundaries. "The Promo Team is our ambassadors to the world," says Alfred Grace, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Polynesian Cultural Center. "They do a fantastic job entertaining and educating people about the beauty and diversity of Polynesia. We constantly get compliments from people moved by their performance." The group is as unique as their entertainment. Some are veteran performers while others are students working their way through school at Brigham Young University Hawai'i. The eclectic mix of talents and backgrounds only adds to the diversity of cultures they represent. It was the Promo Team that put the Polynesian Cultural Center at the forefront of cultural visitor attractions in the late 1960s with electrifying performances on the Ed Sullivan Show and at the Hollywood Bowl. Over the years the group has been a fixture in Waikiki and in great demand overseas, charming and dazzling audiences in every region of the U.S., as well as in Europe, South America, and Asia with the most reverent of cultural traditions found in ancient Polynesia. The group can charm with hula, or dance with fire. Their audience ranges from presidents and heads of state to rural school assemblies on Oahu's remote North Shore. The reaction is typically the same. Audiences are left wide-eyed and slack-jawed, amazed at the range of skills. The Promo Team was the featured performance group at the Hawai'i Convention Center's Grand Opening, and the 1998 Miss Universe Pageant. The group has also been featured on ESPN, CNN, Dateline NBC, ABC's Good Morning America, and most recently, NBC's The Today Show, CBS Early Show and Fox News' Fox & Friends. They are also frequently asked to accompany the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau and Oahu Visitors Bureau as ambassadors of Aloha on their trips around the world marketing Hawai'i as a destination. Founded in 1963 as a non-profit organization, the PCC has entertained more than 32 million visitors, while preserving and portraying the culture, arts, and crafts of Polynesia to the rest of the world. In addition, the PCC has provided financial assistance to 15,000 young people from over 70 different countries while they attend Brigham Young University - Hawai'i. As a non-profit organization, 100 percent of PCC's revenue is used for daily operations and to support education. We will be joined by the Polynesian Cultural Center Promotional Team on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 for an evening of amazing, live entertainment. |
