UH Policy on Health Insurance Health insurance is only mandatory for international students; however, the Student Health Insurance Committee encourages all students to think about their health insurance needs and to enroll in a plan that provides adequate coverage.
If students become ill or injured and have no insurance, they may not be able to continue their education because of financial concerns. By requiring or strongly encouraging purchase of adequate health insurance, the University’s goal is to have students fulfill their educational objectives at the University of Hawai’i.
