DESCRIPTION:Lecture and hands-on open informal session with Dr. Jentery Sayers\nWhat might histories of media and technology gain from remaking obsolete instruments? From reconducting early experiments? From fabricating machines that existed only on paper as fictions? Based on work conducted by the University of Victoria's Maker Lab in the Humanities, this talk explores such questions, with particular attention to how we might prototype the past by prototyping absences and hyperbole in the historical record.\n\nJentery Sayers is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Victoria, with research interests in comparative media studies, digital humanities, Anglo-American modernism, computers and composition, and teaching with technologies.\n\nPresented by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Digital Arts and Humanities Initiative with generous support from the Dai Ho Chun Distinguished Lecturer Fund at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Colleges of Arts and Sciences.\n
