DESCRIPTION:Lecture with Dr. Suparna Banerjee:\n\nDrawing on contemporary/Bharatanatyam practice, this lecture will discuss how new dance aesthetics are reconfigured through digitization of the body. I argue that the digital double is seen not merely as an aesthetic tool or psychological state of mind, but as a methodology broadly associated with the politics of the body, identity, history, new aesthetics and technoculture.\n\nDr. Suparna Banerjee\n\nScholar, Artist, Dance Writer\n\nSuparna Banerjee is an independent scholar, artist and dance writer from India. She obtained her PhD in Dance Studies from the University of Roehampton, UK. She is trained in Bharatanatyam dance and has received several awards for her performances and teaching. Her choreographies have been showcased in many countries, including Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the USA and the UK.\n\nHer research interests include South Asian dance, digital performance, cultural studies, site-specific dance and critical pedagogy. She has taught in many undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the USA and contributed to developing dance curriculum for the undergraduate liberal education degree in India. Her writings on dance have appeared in peer-reviewed journals.\n\nMade possible in part by Special Funding from the Hawaiʻi State Legislature \n\n
