DESCRIPTION:Climate disasters demand an integration of multilateral negotiations on climate change, disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, human rights and human security. Rosemary Lyster developed a unique capability approach to human and non-human climate justice and its application to all stages of a disaster: prevention; response, recovery and rebuilding; compensation and risk transfer. In this presentation she focuses on the Pacific region to discuss recent international initiatives on climate displaced persons and avenues of compensation for climate related damages.\n\nDr. Rosemary Lyster is the Professor of Climate and Environmental Law in the University of Sydney Law School. In 2015, she was appointed by the Victorian government to a three person independent review committee to review the state's Climate Change Act 2010 and recommend ways to place the city of Victoria as a leader on climate change. The government accepted 32 of the committee's 33 recommendations. Dr. Lyster is currently the Energy and Water Special Editor of the Environmental and Planning Law Journal, which is the leading environmental law journal in Australia. Her affiliations include the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) World Commission on Environmental Law and special working groups on Energy and Climate Change; Water and Wetlands; and Forests.\n
