DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Public Seminar with Peggy Petrovich, EWC's Diplomat-in-Residence\n\nShe will discuss what consular officers do to assist U.S. citizens overseas when a crisis occurs. From providing information to U.S. citizens at the outset of an event to coordinating evacuations in the most critical of circumstances, the Department of State considers the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas one of its top priorities.\n\nMs. Petrovich, an 18-year veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service, specializes in consular affairs. Her assignments have included consular, management, political-military affairs, and crisis management work in Manila, Toronto, Karachi and Germany. In Washington, D.C. she has served in the Office of the Under Secretary for Management, the Executive Secretariat’s Office of Crisis Management Support, and the Bureaus of European and Eurasian Affairs and Consular Affairs. The Department of State has recognized her work with several awards, particularly related to managing visa services and services to U.S. citizens overseas. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas and a Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati, where she was a Human Rights Fellow at the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights.\n\nFree and open to the public; Seating is limited\n\nPaid parking is available on the UHM campus\n\n
