DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend the opening events for the art exhibition "Harry Tsuchidana: Works on Paper" \n\n Sunday, September 2, The Art Gallery\n\n2–3 pm, Talk Story with Harry Tsuchidana\n\n3–5 pm, Combined opening reception for "Harry Tsuchidana: Works on Paper" and "Emily McIlroy: Noctuary" at The Commons Gallery, UHM\nLive music by guitarist Christopher Hopper.\n\nHarry Tsuchidana (b. 1932 Waipahu, O‘ahu) is one of Hawaii’s noted and prolific living artists. This exhibition features over 80 works on paper from the artist’s personal collection. While his paintings have received much-deserved attention in several solo and group exhibitions, this is only the second presentation that foregrounds his works on paper.  \n\nRod Bengston, as curator, selected the works in this exhibition. In conversations with Tsuchidana, Bengston identitifed seventeen themes and expressions—some of which the artist returned to again throughout decades of his investigations.\n\nImage: Harry Tsuchidana, "Two Figures," 1997–2007, tempera, pencil, and wash on paper.
