DESCRIPTION:In 2009, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared the Naxalite Maoist movement in rural eastern India to be the most serious internal threat to national security. Comprised mostly of tribal peoples oppressed by class inequalities and sidelined by the state, these guerrillas are often mistreated by the mainstream as well as subject to violence at the hands of security forces.\n\nWhat might happen if a rookie government clerk is sent into rural forests thick with Maoists and swarmed by heavily armed government troops in order to bring democratic elections to the region? 'Newton' tells that story in the form of a gripping dark comedy. Starring the brilliant Rajkummar Rao as Newton, the film won a host of national and international awards and was India's entry to this year's Oscars. \n\nThis is the ninth movie in the 16th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall.
