DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Public Lecture featuring Naoyuki Agawa, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law, Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan\n\nNaoyuki Agawa, author of The Friendship across the Seas: the United States Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, will discuss the U.S.-Japan alliance from the perspective of its navy-to-navy relationship.\n\nDiscussants:\n\nAdmiral Tomohisa Takei, Distinguished International Fellow, US Naval War College; Chief of Staff, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (Ret.)\nRear Admiral Robert P. Girrier, President, Pacific Forum; Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, Pacific Fleet, US Navy (Ret.)\n\nNaoyuki Agawa teaches American constitutional law and history at Doshisha University. From 1999-2016, he taught at Keio University and served as Minister for Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. He received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (1984) and graduated magna cum laude from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University (1977.) Among Agawaâ€™s books are Manifest Destiny on the Seas? The Birth and Rise of Pax Americana (2013.)
