DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Public Seminar featuring Jennica Larrison, Graduate Program Director and Assistant Professor, School of Public and International Affairs, Univ. of Baltimore, Maryland\n\nIn 2014, the number of Central American children crossing the US-Mexico border alone increased dramatically. This talk draws on focus group discussions with unaccompanied minors and their guardians to explore the experiences of unaccompanied minors once in the US. Dr. Larrison examines the factors that affect youths’ experiences and highlights how the experiences of youth are intimately connected to the role and responsibility of the US agency involved in the process and the public servants working within it.\n\nDr. Jennica Larrison examines the distinctions between how migration is experienced, portrayed, and legislated. Her recent work can be found in the Journal of International Migration and Border Studies, Public Policy and Administration, while upcoming work can be found in World Affairs, and the International Journal of Public Administration. She co-edited a book on The Role of Migration in Poverty Reduction and has written extensively on the relationship between public administrators and unaccompanied migrant children in the US.\nPrior to joining the University of Baltimore, Dr. Larrison worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC as a human development specialist, focusing on migration and social protection in East Asia, Europe, and Central Asia.
