DESCRIPTION:Place-based research is especially important in the Hawaiian Islands where communities have deep cultural, ecological, spiritual, and social ties to place. The Place-Based Research Matters series will focus on best practices for building community and researcher partnerships outlined in the Kulana Noi`i (Research Standards).\n\n\n\nPilina is a connection or relationship.\n\nThis workshop will cover strategies for building and sustaining collaborative relationships between community and researchers. The format will center around small group discussions lightly facilitated by faculty members with expertise in community engagement and place-based research. The intention is for faculty from a diverse range of disciplines to come together and share practical approaches and strategies for place-based research.\n\n\n\nTopics covered during this workshop will include:\nemonstrating respect and self-awareness in community engagement\nBuilding reciprocal relationships between community and researchers\nMaintaining inclusive, transparent, and open communication throughout the research process \n\n\n\nBeverages will be provided.
