DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Public Seminar with --\nDr. Anna Powles, Senior Lecturer in Security Studies at Massey University, New Zealand\n\nDr. Powles will share her research on how state and non-state actors are shaping security and the intersection of geopolitics and local security dynamics in the Pacific. Her presentation will include references to the New Zealand Pacific reset, the external and sub-regional dynamics shaping the Pacific regional order, including the role of China, the NZ-Australian alliance and NZ-US partnership in the Pacific.\n\nDr. Powles, a Senior Lecturer in Security Studies at Massey University, New Zealand, is currently an EWC Visiting Fellow. She is an Associate Scholar with the MacMillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, University of Canterbury and the Director of Women in International Security (WIIS) New Zealand. She was the New Zealand representative on the NATO Core Group on Women, Peace and Security (2016-18).\n\nDr. Powles co-founded the Security, Politics and Development Network, is co-investigator on a Strategic Initiative Fund research project on private security companies in the Pacific Islands, and a UNDP Pacific subject expert on private security sector governance in the Pacific. She writes extensively and lectures widely on Pacific security including at RIIA (Chatham House),  IISS, CSIS, Hudson Institute, Wilton Park, USIP, Lowy Institute and at NZ-Australia-US Track 1.5 dialogues. She has worked in conflict affected and emergency humanitarian contexts in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, including with the UN and the ICG.
