DESCRIPTION:NDPTC is excited to welcome University Transportation Centers (UTC) grant award recipients Dr. Chunhee Cho & Dr. DoSoo Moon to share their research projects.\n\nDr. Chunhee Cho is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawaii. Dr. Cho received his Ph.D from the Georgia Institute of Technology and previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nevada. Dr. Cho’s research project focuses on the combined use of modal updating technique and artificial intelligence prediction to create an early damage identification process in bridge structures and is titled “Bridge monitoring through a hybrid approach leveraging a modal updating technique and an artificial intelligence method”.\n\nDr. DoSoo Moon is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). After obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Dr. Moon worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Mid-America Earthquake (MAE) Center and Smart Structures Technology Laboratory at UIUC. Dr. Moon’s research specialties include multi-hazard resilient infrastructures, stochastic risk analysis, evaluation of structural performances under extreme events, structural health monitoring with smart sensors, computer vision with deep learning, and development of advance structural design and retrofitting methods. Dr. Moon’s research project focuses on evaluating hazard vulnerability of transportation structures and improving their resilience and is titled “Integrated hazard vulnerability assessment and mitigation framework with mixed reality for transportation infrastructures."
