DESCRIPTION:The Center for Chinese Studies presents its Understanding China series #2, featuring Professor Jing GUO from the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health at UHM and Associate Professor Meirong LIU from the Howard University School of Social Work, on the topic of China’s 35-year one-child policy, which was ended in 2015. This talk presents the background of family, marriage, and gender ideology in China, reviews the one-child policy and female employment trends, explores the impact of one-child policy reform on female employment in the new era, and discusses social policy solutions in response to new challenges, to support gender equality and family wellbeing. This Faculty Dialogue is co-sponsored by the UH Department of Social Work.
