DESCRIPTION:Please join the University of Hawaiʻi Law Review and a host of prolific scholars on Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th, 2022, from 9:00 am – 1:30 pm HST for our virtual symposium, Pili ka Moʻo: Celebrating Chuck Lawrence’s Legacy on Struggles for Justice. Professor Lawrence has been a storied professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law for many years. His work has inspired generational movements for racial justice, and he has been a tremendous ally in Kanaka ʻŌiwi sovereignty and self-determination movements.\n\nMany beloved faculty from our law school—Mari Matsuda, Eric Yamamoto, Linda Hamilton Krieger, Kapua Sproat, Susan Serrano, and Andrea Freeman, as well as Dean Camille Nelson—will be speaking at or moderating the event. \n\nThey will be joined by faculty from across the UH Mānoa campus, including Dean Jon Kamakawiwoʻole Osorio (Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge), Kamanamaikalani Beamer (Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge), Jamaica Heolimeleikalani Osorio (Department of Political Science & Indigenous Politics Program), and Craig Howes (Department of English & Center for Biographical Research). \n\nLocal and national scholars and litigators, including Kimberlé Crenshaw (Columbia University), Cheryl Harris (UCLA), James Forman Jr. (Yale), Natsu Taylor Saito (Georgia State University), Sumi Cho (African American Policy Forum), Suzanne Kim (Rutgers University), Hōkūlani Aikau (University of Victoria), Kim Coco Iwamoto (Former Commissioner, Hawaiʻi Civil Rights Commission), and David Cole (National Legal Director, ACLU), will also be presenting. \n\nWe are honored to have these local and national luminaries be part of this celebration. We would love to have you join us as well. Register here: http://go.hawaii.edu/xGn
