DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Bonnie J. Buntain, BS, MS, DVM\n\nThis seminar is a call to action to apply the One Health transdisciplinary approach to research, educational and service programs. The One Health approach will be described historically as well as using current paradigms. The root causes of the emergence of diseases will exemplify the urgent need for academia and other organizations to integrate the One Health approach across disciplines and to engage community-based and indigenous knowledge in each step of the process. The added value of implementing the One Health conceptual framework into academia is described as well as the barriers and enablers to implementation. The importance of the One Health approach to research will be illustrated by case examples. To achieve the vision of A.L.O.H.A., the University of Hawaii and JABSOM have an incredible opportunity to build on what is already in place, and purposefully use the One Health approach to build interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary capacity to solve the unprecedented challenges that global health faces now and in an all-too-near future.
