People who participate in the Community Dialogues program will be able to:\n1) Identify important aspects of their personal backgrounds,\n2) Articulate the value of understanding different perspectives,\n3) Describe and demonstrate principles of positive social engagement in communication, and\n4) Understand about being responsible members of the Community.\n-----------------\n“Home, Truly?: Places, Journeys, and Origins” with Yumi Saito\nThursday, October 3, 2024\nIn-Person: 9 AM - 10:15 AM at Agricultural Engineering Institute, Room 114\nVia Zoom: 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM\nRegister at https://tinyurl.com/cdfall2024\n--------------\nSession:\nUsing "Home", a famous National Day song from Singapore as a starting point, I hope to facilitate a reflective discussion and sharing on how participants might conceive of "home" differently, whether as a static, specific space, a dynamic process of place-making, or something in between.\n----------\nSpeaker:\nRuizhi Choo is a graduate degree fellow with the East-West Center, and a PhD student with the Department of History at the UH Mānoa. Born and raised in Pek Kio, Singapore, he is the grandchild of Hokkien shopkeepers. His research interests lie at the intersections of modern Southeast Asian history, environmental history, and animal history. Before Honolulu, Ruizhi served as an associate research fellow at the S.Rajaratnam School of International Studies. He obtained his Master’s degree from the National University of Singapore.
