DESCRIPTION:The Center for Biographical Research presents: / “Ordinary Life Narratives and Climate Change in Contemporary Literature: Experiencing Atmosphere”/ Adina Balint, Professor of French Literature, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, University of Winnipeg / The intersection of climate change and literature is a dynamic space where narratives, both fictional and non-fictional, contribute to shaping public awareness, fostering environmental consciousness and inspiring action. Drawing from theories of ecocriticism and ecopoetics (Schoentjes, Posthumus), I show how contemporary Francophone writers connect climate change observations with everyday life both thematically and formally. I seek to demonstrate that literature challenges climate change discourse focused on science and policy by orienting readers’ attention to minor gestures and actions of everyday life. \n / Adina Balint is Professor of 20th and 21st-century French literature at the University of Winnipeg, in Manitoba, Canada. She has recently co-edited Les ambiances dans les littératures de langue française du XIXe siècle à nos jours [Atmospheres in French Language Literature from the 19th Century to the Present Day] (with Sara Buekens, Presses de l’Université Laval).
