DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive speaker session with Wiwik Dharmiasih as she discusses environmental peacebuilding in relation to subak, the traditional farming system of Bali. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012, subak are traditional practices of irrigation and water management in rice cultivation that have existed for more than a millennium. Now, developmental challenges such as land use change, water access, land taxation, and aging farmers threaten the existence of the subak system. Join students from the Eikei University of Hiroshima in examining how the protection of socio-ecological practices can serve as a foundation for environmental peacebuilding.\n\nOrganized by Peacebuilding LLC in collaboration with the Matsunaga Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution.
