Course Loads

General

Sixteen graduate credit hours in a semester and eight credits in a six-week summer session are considered maximum course loads and may be exceeded only with the approval of the graduate chair and the Graduate Division. Nine graduate credit hours in a semester is considered a normal course load. The minimum full-time load for graduate students is 8 credits per semester.

For Graduate Assistants

Minimum full-time load: 6 credits

Maximum full-time load: 9 credits (including thesis 700)

Note: With permission of the department chair and the Dean of the Graduate Division, Graduate assistants may take 12 credits, including courses being audited. Graduate assistants wishing to take in excess of 9 credits should write to the department chair setting forth the reasons why they wish to take more than 9 credits and explaining how they will cover their expected 20 hours per week of work.
