Directed Studies (SLS 500)
This course applies principally to students enrolled in the MA in SLS and Advanced Graduate Certificate. Such students who have completed all requirements for their degree but who have an incomplete to make up or who have not yet had their Scholarly Paper approved, should register for 1 credit of SLS 500 Directed Studies. Such registration is required in order to maintain registration and remain eligible for graduation, only so long as no other courses are taken, in which case, 500 is not necessary.
MA in SLS Plan A students maintain eligibility by registering in SLS 700, after defending their thesis proposals; PhD students register in SLS 800.
SLS 500 does not carry credit toward meeting total credit hours requirements, but payment of one credit worth of tuition will be necessary. It involves no meetings or contacts, and the Graduate Chair is the nominal faculty supervisor. The course is mandatorily graded Satisfactory/No Grade.
