Hawai‘i TESOL
Hawai’i TESOL is an organization of ESL professionals in Hawai’i, the official local affiliate of the national TESOL organization. Its goals include promoting the highest standards in employment and instruction, improving professional support and interaction, and increasing public and government recognition of ESL in the State of Hawai’i. It is no longer affiliated with HCTE, which is the official NCTE affiliate.

Membership involves about four or five meetings per year. Meetings focus on topics of interest to ESL, such as professional development (e.g., the teaching of reading or writing), employment concerns, illustrating language teaching and learning processes, and improving standards in Hawai’i. Hawai’i TESOL also sponsors occasional social activities to promote networking, and the February Annual Hawai’i TESOL Conference, plus issues of the newsletter The Word. Articles discuss language learning and teaching, describe practical classroom techniques, and summarize relevant state and legislative activities. Membership is open to anyone in Hawai’i who is interested in ESL. Students in the MA program in ESL are particularly urged to join and participate. One year’s membership is $20 for regular members, and $10 for students and seniors.
