HALT (Hawai‘i Association of Language Teachers)

The Hawaii Association of Language Teachers (HALT) is a non-profit organization that aims to achieve and maintain the highest standards in the teaching profession of those engaged in foreign languages, to promote the academic welfare of our students by providing steadily improving professional procedures and objectives for all teachers, and to provide to the teachers an opportunity to meet with their colleagues for the exchange of ideas and experiences, and for the enrichment of their professional background. HALT is the official local affiliate of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages).

HALT presents a Fall Symposium, on a Saturday in late October, on a topic of interest to language teaching professionals, and a Spring Conference, also on a Saturday in February or March, to provide language teaching professionals and graduate students an opportunity to share techniques and research in language teaching with their colleagues. HALT publishes a quarterly newsletter. HALT has also coordinated DOE teacher immersion workshops. The annual dues for each calendar year are $15, and $5 for students and teaching assistants.
