Combined Executive Accounting Program and Master's of Accounting
DOING CPA AND MASTER'S TOGETHER
The University of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Accountancy has launched an innovative master's program that combines a Master's of Accounting (MAcc) with its Executive Accounting Program (EAP).
PROGRAM FEATURES
- Students can prepare for the US CPA exam and earn a Master's degree at the same time
- The Program's flexible structure is such that after successfully completing the EAP courses the students can register and complete the Master's Program in Accountancy without any interruptions.
- This Program provides students extra opportunities to retake the CPA exam if necessary during their Master's program.
THIS PROGRAM IS SUITABLE FOR:
- Any student who graduated from college and wants to earn a Master's degree in accounting.
- Any students who graduated from college and who wants to sit for the US CPA exam.
- Any accounting practitioner who wants to earn a US CPA license to enhance his/her market value and global business opportunities.
- Any individual who wants to pursue an accounting career as a CPA.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The students admitted to this program will take twenty-four (24) credit hours of accounting courses during a six-month period. These courses are as follows:
- ACC 581 EAP Financial Accounting I (5 credits)
- ACC 582 EAP Intermediate and Advance Financial Accounting (5 credits)
- ACC 583a EAP Cost Management (2 credits)
- ACC 583b EAP Business Law (3 credits)
- ACC 584a EAP Federal Income Taxation (3 credits)
- ACC 584b EAP Taxation of Business Entities (2 credits)
- ACC 585 EAP Auditing & Assurance (4 credits)
Students who successfully pass these courses will meet the accounting education requirements to sit for the US CPA examination regardless of their previous undergraduate majors.
After completion of the intensive courses, students are required to take additional eight additional graduate courses (24 credits) to earn a MAcc degree. Students have up to 5 years to complete their MAcc course requirements. However, under normal circumstances, students should be able to finish the additional 24 credits in another 2 semesters plus a summer.
The EAP/MAcc degree required courses include the following:
- Required accounting courses (12 credits):
- Accounting Electives: Suggested Concentration (9 credit):
- ACC 619 Advanced Auditing
- ACC 620 Global Accounting
- ACC 635 Advanced Public Sector Accounting
- ACC 640 International Auditing and Assurance
- Courses from the Tax or Financial Reporting tracks provided that they are not fulfilling ACC Elective requirements
- ACC 690 Current Topics in Accounting
- ACC 695 Internship (only one Internship course can be taken for MAcc credit)
- 400- to 600- level courses from the Shidler College of Business (BLW, FIN, ITM, MGT, MKT, RE), Law, or Speech (Business course are not to include MBA core classes BUS 610-629, 660, 695, and 696B/C or HRM 668 or MGT 650
- Thesis Option
Students can take any 400-600 level Accounting course except those used to fulfill deficiency or core requirements. No more than two elective courses may be from the 400-level. The following tracks are recommended:
Additional Electives (6 credit hours)Tax concentration (any two of the following)

Students may take any two of the following:
In consultation with their advisor, a student may opt to do a research thesis in place of ACC 660 and three elective credits. Thesis students enroll in ACC 700 Thesis Research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Official English College Transcript (GPA minimum 3.0).
- GMAT (500 minimum) Scores.
- TOEFL (550 or 213 computerized test minimum) for international students.

TIMING OF THE EAP PROGRAM
The EAP program admits students twice or once a year. The Shidler Executive Education Center reserves the right to cancel the program if there is not sufficient enrollment for a particular cohort.
The Summer & Fall 2009 program is tentatively scheduled to commence on June 15, 2009 and conclude on December 19, 2009.

You must complete all three applications and attach a $120.00 US Money Order or personal check payable to University of Hawaii with your application. Please note that the $120 application fee is non-refundable, so we only encourage you to apply when you have met the minimum admission requirements. No additional application fees are required for the Graduate Division application; the EAP/MAcc Program will cover the application fees of the Graduate Division.
